2024 UMCRM Conference Staff Summit

Why attend the UMCRM Executive Summit?

Each year camp/retreat executives gather for leadership development, educational opportunities, spiritual renewal, and networking. We are stronger together! During the Summit, we will have time for intentional learning, small group conversation, and opportunities to envision the future of camp and retreat ministries affiliated with The United Methodist Church. "TED (Talks with Executive Directors) Talks" are returning by popular demand, so come prepared to share a short educational presentation from your heart and/or expertise.

Who is the Summit for?

Our community includes executives with many years of experience and those who are brand new to their positions. Some serve in roles focused entirely on Camp & Retreat Ministries; in recent years many relate to camps as part of a larger portfolio of ministry responsibilities at the Conference level. This gathering is for all conference or organizational staff who oversee United Methodist-affiliated camp and retreat ministries in an executive capacity.

Where is this year’s Summit being held?

We will be hosted at the beautiful, historic Scarritt Bennett Center in Nashville, TN, convenient to the Nashville airport (BNA) and within walking distance of the United Methodist Denman Building/Upper Room and Music Row.

Our lodging is in private single rooms with shared bath. All linens and towels provided. Registration includes the option of either 3 or 4 nights' single-occupancy lodging, 7 meals (Tuesday dinner through Friday breakfast, except for our Wednesday dinner out), and all programming.

Free Afternoon Options

Discover the vibrant culture and history of Nashville through an off-site adventure! Choose from three experiences that showcase the best of Music City.

  • Grand Ole Opry and Opryland Hotel: Dive into the heart of country music with a visit to the iconic Grand Ole Opry. Followed by a stroll through the stunning Opryland Hotel, with its lush gardens and indoor waterfalls.
  • Country Music Hall of Fame: Explore the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, where interactive exhibits and memorabilia celebrate Nashville's rich musical heritage.
Don’t miss this chance to explore Nashville's renowned landmarks and make unforgettable memories with fellow ministry leaders!

Optional: New Execs Onboarding

Tuesday afternoon from 1:30-4:30 pm we will hold a free “add-on” session expressly for new (and new-ish) annual conference staff with Camp and Retreat Ministry in their portfolio.

Learn more about the powerful opportunities, unique challenges, and supportive resources available to your work on the conference level in camping ministries. Seasoned execs and UMCRM staff will help to lead this session customized to your needs. UMCRM will help arrange carpool pickups as needed – please plan arrivals before 12 noon to make sure you have time to grab lunch before we gather.

Transportation:

Scarritt Bennett is just a short Uber or Lyft ride from the airport, but we'll also coordinate carpools from BNA as needed. Please schedule flight arrivals by 3:30 pm on Tuesday, November 12th so you'll have time to settle into your lodging room before our pre-dinner gathering time.
